The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any major awards ceremony draws close, one notices a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games globally and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
